This is a nationally recognized certificate parenting program that assists all Prince William County residents and their children in developing self-awareness, empathy, discipline alternatives and age-appropriate expectations.  This program is funded through our Transitional Living Program.

The Nurturing Parenting Program is a series of 12 half hour sessions held in a group format.  Families attend separate groups and come together for a half hour to eat and work on activities.  Parents and children work on the same skills while learning to get along and communicate better.

Who is the Nurturing Parenting Program for?

• Any family with children ages 0-6 and their siblings up to age 9 are welcome.
• Single parent families
• Two-parent families
• Blended families
• Foster families
• The class focus is on children from birth to 5 years old, and siblings accepted from ages 6 to 9 years.

This program is especially helpful to families experiencing stress from issues such as:

• Divorce/separation
• Poor communication
• Domestic/family violence
• Recovering substance abuse

What is Taught in the Nurturing Parenting Program?  This program focuses on five key concepts:

• Self-awareness
• Empathy
• Discipline alternatives
• Age-appropriate expectations
• Bonding and attachment
